Rec. 01 · Opening Neutral evidence · 2026

For commercial API relationships

Contracts define the obligation.
Evidence defines what happened.

Trust GTW creates a neutral, auditable record of commercial API relationships — connecting contractual obligations with operational evidence, communication, and accountability.

Rec. 02 The problem

APIs run on systems.
Commercial relationships run on evidence.

When an API relationship breaks down, the difficult question is rarely whether a metric exists. Metrics are abundant. What is missing is a shared account of obligation, event, communication, and consequence — reconstructed from fragments across contracts, logs, dashboards, emails, tickets, and reports.

  1. 01 What did the contract require?
  2. 02 What actually happened?
  3. 03 What was communicated?
  4. 04 When was it communicated?
  5. 05 Who acknowledged it?
  6. 06 What evidence exists?
  7. 07 What should happen next?

Rec. 03 TGW-CHAIN-001

From contract to accountability.

Trust GTW is the transformation between a written obligation and a durable record of what followed. Not a diagram of features — a chain of custody.

Rec. 04 The shared record

A neutral layer between provider and client.

Trust GTW does not decide who is right. It holds what both sides can later examine: the agreement, the measurement, the notice, the acknowledgement, the exclusion, the dispute, the resolution.

API provider
Trust GTW
API client

The record contains

  • what was agreed
  • what was measured
  • what was communicated
  • what was acknowledged
  • what was excluded
  • what was disputed
  • what was resolved

Neutrality is not silence. It is the refusal to collapse evidence into a verdict before the parties — or a court — ask for one.

Rec. 05 Classification

Evidence before opinion.

Trust GTW distinguishes how something entered the record. That distinction is the product. A measured outage is not a communicated notice. An acknowledgement is not an inference. A dispute is not a finding.

MEASURED

Observed directly from operational systems.

COMMUNICATED

A notification, maintenance event, or contractual communication occurred.

ACKNOWLEDGED

The relevant party confirmed receipt or acceptance.

INFERRED

A conclusion derived from available evidence.

DISPUTED

The parties disagree about interpretation or responsibility.

Rec. 06 From contract to enforcement

Not every obligation
should block traffic.

Enforcement is a constraint that exists for a reason: explicit, mechanical, dependable — and only engaged when the contract requires it. Most of the record is observation. Runtime blocking is the last step, not the first.

01

Observe

Capture evidence without changing traffic. The relationship is recorded. Runtime is untouched.

02

Measure

Evaluate contractual obligations against operational evidence. The record becomes comparable to the agreement.

03

Enforce

Apply explicit contractual policies to runtime behavior. A constraint, engaged only when the contract requires it.

Rec. 07 Contractual events

Communication is part
of the contract.

Maintenance notices, migration warnings, incident notifications, acknowledgements, and exceptions are not side-channel mail. They are contractual events. If they are not in the record, they did not, for evidentiary purposes, occur.

Rec. 08 Disputes

When the evidence disagrees,
the record remains.

Trust GTW does not pretend every contractual question can be resolved automatically. Some things can be measured, enforced, or reconstructed. Others require interpretation, negotiation, and human judgment. That boundary is a strength: the record does not invent certainty it does not have.

The record can

  • Measure automatically
  • Enforce automatically
  • Reconstruct from evidence

The record will not

  • Substitute for interpretation
  • Close a negotiation
  • Replace human judgment

Rec. 09 Infrastructure

The layer between
agreement and runtime.

Trust GTW sits beside the relationship, not in the request path. For both client and provider, the operational work is registering a collector against the OpenTelemetry infrastructure they already run — the same motion as adding Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic, or any other observability backend. Contracts compile into policies. Telemetry becomes evidence. Communications become events. Policy evaluation writes an immutable history, with provenance that can be examined years later.

04 / 07

Observability

Each party adds a collector to the OpenTelemetry pipeline they already run — the same motion as Datadog, Dynatrace, or New Relic. Evidence arrives over OTLP.
